How to Use an Auger For a Drill

Using an auger for a drill can be very useful if you have a limited amount of space. If you were to use regular screws or bolts, this would mean that you were restricted to a certain size, which could leave you with a difficult situation. What you need to realise is that the depth that an auger works in relation to the diameter of your drill hole is measured in terms of the diameter of the drilling hole. The larger the diameter of the holes you drill, the smaller the auger will be and therefore the smaller the auger needed to be to achieve the depth required.

To determine whether or not you will be able to use an auger for a drill, it is important to get a level surface to use as well as some small tools. You need to be sure that the hole is at the same level as where the drill bit will be. If it is not then you will find that you can over drill, meaning that you can force more metal into the same hole, potentially damaging it. It is essential that the auger is the correct diameter for your drill hole so that you do not exceed the hole’s tolerance to depth. When you get to the bottom of the hole and start to drill sideways the hole is usually too small, which means that you will need to drill again.

Once you know the diameter of the hole and the drill bit that you are going to use then you are ready to place the auger into the hole. The process is relatively simple, but you will find that there are many different types of augers to choose from. You will need to work out how long you want the auger to be and how deep you want it to drill. This will ensure that you get the most out of your drill, ensuring that you can complete the task. Some people opt for a drill that has a series of gears in it to help them drill further, but this can be a little difficult to operate and can be more of a hassle than it is worth.
